Germany: New Appeal for Ceasefire in Ukraine Published in Die Zeit —

June 30, 2022 (EIRNS)–A list of 21 prominent Germans and two international signers (Richard Falk and Jeffrey Sachs) published in today’s Die Zeit a new appeal to Western governments for an all-out and immediate effort to achieve a quick, negotiated solution to the Ukraine conflict. Among the German signers is Gen. (ret.) Erich Vad, former military advisor to Angela Merkel. An immediate reaction from Andrej Melnik, Ukrainian Ambassador to Berlin followed.

The signers call for a “diplomatic full-scale offensive” as the only way to get out of “the present dead-end,” referring to military experts, who consider victory for Ukraine—with a return of all occupied territories including Donetsk, Lugansk, and Crimea—unrealistic. They question continuing weapons deliveries and demand, “An immediate cease-fire,” the title of their call. “Continuing the war to achieve full victory of Ukraine over Russia leads to thousands of further victims of war, who die for a goal that does not seem realistic.”

In an immediate reaction to this, Ukrainian Ambassador and attack-dog in Berlin, Andrej Melnik, had a fit on twitter: “Not again, what a bunch of pseudo-intellectual losers you all Varwicks, Vads, Kluges, Prechts, Yogeshwars, Zehs & Co. [names of some signers] should finally go to hell with your defeatist ‘advise’. Bye.” Andrij Melnyk zu Augstein, Precht und Co.: Schert Euch zum Teufel! [Go to hell!]

Greek Amb. Chrysanthopoulos Scored the Ukraine Blacklisting of Schiller Institute on RT TV

Aug. 8, 2022 (EIRNS)–Greek Ambassador Ad Hon., and member of the Schiller Institute, Leonidas Chrysanthopoulos presented the blacklisting of the Schiller Institute by the Center for Combating Disinformation (CCD) of Ukraine, in an interview this week on RT television. While being interviewed on the recent Amnesty International Report denouncing the Ukrainian military’s use of human shields, the Ambassador went into a full briefing on the blacklisting, referring directly to the Schiller Institute. He declared that conducting this blacklist operation exposes the fascist nature of the Ukrainian regime. German Jurist and Author: German Chancellor Must Denounce Ukraine Fascist Hit List

Aug. 8, 2022 (EIRNS)–The widely-read German website NachdenkSeiten posted an article on Aug. 8 by Dr. Wolfgang Bittner, a well-known jurist and author who spoke at a Schiller Institute conference on June 18 (his presentation is here) and who was put on the Ukraine CCD hit list. The article, under the title: “Ukraine’s Blacklist – the Federal Chancellor must act,” notes, that in addition to himself and Helga Zepp-LaRouche, the list includes Rolf Mützenlich, the Chairman of the Social Democratic Party caucus in the Bundestag. (It must be noted that Chancellor Olaf Schulz is a member of the SPD.)

Dr. Bittner writes, from a machine translation: “The political situation is appalling and the persecution of dissenters in connection with the Ukraine war is taking the form of unbridled fascism. It is unacceptable that state terrorism is being carried out here under the eyes of the world public. The persecution of critics and opposition figures by Ukrainian government organizations must be stopped immediately. The federal government is called upon to lodge a protest with the Zelensky government against the discrimination against German nationals… and to stop all aid for Ukraine. The list of the CCD must be deleted immediately.”

Top Danish Independent Radio Interviewed Jens Jørgen Nielsen, on Ukraine Blacklist

Aug. 8, 2022 (EIRNS) Copenhagen–The Danish Russia-Ukraine expert Jens Jørgen Nielsen, a speaker at the Danish-Swedish Schiller Institute May 25, 2022 online conference who is on the Ukraine blacklist, was interviewed Aug. 3 for 13 minutes on Radio 24/seven (24/syv) about his appearance on the list. Radio 24/seven is the leading Danish national private radio. That was followed by an interview with Søren Liborius, a Danish leading consultant for the EU’s joint foreign ministry, and former information and press director in the EU foreign ministry office in Russia. They are interviewed by Nicolai Dandanell. Here is a summary of his remarks:

Jens Jørgen Nielsen: The people on the list have different opinions, even one who is for sending weapons to Ukraine. [Nielsen did not mention the Schiller Institute in this connection, although he has done so in other media].

Nielsen said that he is not spreading Russian propaganda, but he is critical of sending weapons to Ukraine, and critical of the narrative that Ukraine is a flowering democracy. That the leader of the disinformation office labeled the people on the list “information terrorists,” who should be tried before a military court, is absurd. The office is supported by the U.S. State Department. He said that he disagrees with the Russian decision to invade, but there has to be a serious discussion, because this is the most dangerous crisis since WWII.

Zelensky has banned 11 parties, and put people under house arrest without a court decision. It is not, as the narrative goes, a battle between democracy and dictatorship.

What does the list mean? Nielsen said he doesn’t think there will be consequences, but will agents come to my house to bring me before a war criminal tribunal?

There is no problem for people to discuss the content of what I said.

This may lead to a comment from the Danish Foreign Minister [who is now required to answer two written questions posed by, Marie Krarup, a member of the Danish Parliament’s Foreign Policy Committee, in a “Consultation” before the committee.]

The fact that Ukraine is threatening Western citizens with being brought before a war criminal tribunal is crossing all red lines. Putting us in connection with war criminals from Yugoslavia and Rwanda, mass murderers, is absurd.

When asked if he is spreading Russian disinformation, Nielsen replied that most of what is in the press is disinformation, from the Ukrainians, the Russians also do it, and in the West. There is no objective narrative in war. I am an historian, and there is war propaganda on all sides.

I understand that Ukraine is afraid of Western war fatigue – will they continue to send weapons? Is it money out of the window? I and others are asking: Can Ukraine win? Can they win without a nuclear war? It is necessary to pose these questions.

I was accused of saying that Ukraine had sent 30 times the previous amount of bombs into the Donbass in the week before Feb. 24. But I have this figure from the OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe). Are they saying that the OSCE is on Putin’s disinformation pay list?

What are the consequences of being on the list? I want to go to Ukraine at some point. Will they let me in? Will I be arrested? Will I be attacked by Ukrainians who live here [in Denmark]? Sometimes I translate for Ukrainian refugees. I can’t imagine that they will come to my house and attack me.

India’s The Hindu Features Interview with Helga Zepp-LaRouche, Schiller Institute Call for a New Bretton Woods

Aug. 6 (EIRNS)—Under the striking headline, “Schiller Institute Calls for New Bretton Woods To End War, Economic Crisis,” one of India’s leading dailies, The Hindu, today published a thorough article on its interview with Schiller Institute founder Helga Zepp-LaRouche, who detailed the role played by her late husband Lyndon LaRouche in shaping the policies for a New International Economic Order and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), as well as his close relationship to India dating back to the time of his World War II service in the China-India-Myanmar theater, and his and Helga Zepp-LaRouche’s personal friendship with Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The Hindu article was illustrated with a prominent photograph of a 2001 meeting of Mr. and Mrs. LaRouche with then President K.R. Narayanan at the presidential offices.

The Hindu began by pointing out that the “global thinktank, Schiller Institute, that recently hit the headlines for organizing an international conference on the Ukraine war and economic crisis,” was shaped by the late economist Lyndon LaRouche. The Schiller Institute’s global conference last April 9 included three prominent Indians among its speakers: retired diplomat P.S. Raghavan (who was scheduled to speak but was unable to attend), journalist Saeed Naqvi, and Sam Pitroda. Subsequently, “it came under attack from Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation that fights online Russian propaganda, [which] released a list of 75 commentators, including the three Indians, whom they accused of promoting Russian propaganda.”

Mrs. Zepp-LaRouche elaborated in some detail her late husband’s role in shaping policy debate in the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). She reported that, after Richard Nixon dismantled the Bretton Woods system in August 1971, her husband warned that the so-called “Nixon Shock” would encourage speculation-driven economic activities and greater inequality, and that he “wrote in favor of the developing economies. Some of those ideas found expression in the 1976 Colombo resolution of the fifth NAM summit that called for a New International Economic Order (NIEO) to help the non-aligned countries,” The Hindu reported. The effects of that “Nixon shock” are still being felt today, Mrs. Zepp-LaRouche asserted.

That the New International Order didn’t come into being was due to many factors, Mrs. Zepp-LaRouche explained, but stressed that when she and her husband met with Indira Gandhi, the Prime Minister showed great interest in “having economic ideas that would safeguard India from the volatilities of international finances” that had affected so many other developing countries. Following Mrs. Gandhi’s assassination in 1984, Mr. LaRouche authored the book Derivative Assassination examining the global dimensions of Khalistani terrorism that might have played a role in her murder. Even after her death, the LaRouches visited India on several occasions and met with such prominent economists as the late Arjun Sengupta and with President K.R. Narayanan in 2001.

In the interview, Mrs. Zepp-LaRouche remarked that the “LaRouche tradition” within the NAM didn’t progress for a number of reasons, including the assassinations of Mrs. Gandhi in 1984 and of her son and successor Rajiv Gandhi in 1991, and the “interventionist wars” launched by the West in Syria, Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan, whose chief architect was U.S. President George H.W. Bush, were largely responsible for the global turmoil that made such progress impossible.

Despite the crisis in Ukraine and the global financial crisis, Mrs. Zepp-LaRouche is hopeful that there is now a reemergence of non-alignment and other positive traditions, The Hindu reported, while warning that Western leaders failed to deal with earlier crises such as the 2008 Lehman Brothers crash, and that the crisis today is such that it could lead to a “blowout of the neoliberal system.”

Look at the West’s treatment of Russia, she said. When the U.S.S.R. collapsed, the Schiller Institute proposed a development corridor—the Eurasian Land-Bridge—that would have helped in economic development. Instead, Western powers adopted a strategy of destroying Russia, treating it as a “regional power,” planning to reduce it to the status of a raw-materials producing “ex-superpower.” These Western policy errors continue to this day, she warned, telling The Hindu, “If we don’t get the United States and Europe onto a new track, toward a new system [New Bretton Woods,] the war danger only worsens.”

Lavrov: Russia-China Strategic Partnership Rallies Nations To Defend International Law

Aug. 6, 2022 (EIRNS)–Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, met again on the sidelines of the ASEAN meeting in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on Aug. 5, their third meeting in the past 30 days, Lavrov noted; the two had consulted when they were in Bali for the G20 ministerial on July 7 and in Tashkent on July 28 for the SCO ministerial. There is nothing obligatory about their schedule; “every time we meet, we see that Russia and China have more issues to discuss and adopt practical decisions on,” Lavrov remarked in opening their meeting, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.

Lavrov pointed to their common evaluation of “the arrogance” with which “the United States is using every available opportunity to strengthen its domination across the world…. The Americans are acting to suppress any manifestation of independence. In this spirit, they decided to turn Ukraine into a threat for the Russian Federation…. Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan is in keeping with this approach….

“I am sure that our strategic partnership is a motivating force behind the movement for the priority of international law over the `rules’ invented by the United States and its satellites. The matter concerns above all international law, beginning with the UN Charter and its fundamental principle of the sovereign equality of states. In this regard, Lavrov cited in particular the “Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter” at the United Nations, a forum on which he said both China and Russia are working. “I regard it as a promising structure that should be expanded. We are confident that more countries will join in this work.”

Scott Ritter Slams “Chuck Schumer’s War on Free Speech”

Aug. 3 (EIRNS)–Former UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter hit New York Sen. Chuck Schumer’s support for the Ukrainian Center for Countering Disinformation extremely hard in a commentary published by Consortium News today. In the process of doing so, Ritter prominently featured LaRouche candidate Diane Sare, Schumer’s opponent in this November’s election in New York and whose name is among those on the Kiev regime’s hit list. Ritter is also named on the Kiev hit list.

At the outset, Ritter noted Schumer’s attack on Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul’s effort to include a provision for inspector general oversight of the $40 billion that the U.S. Congress voted up for Ukraine in May. Schumer argued that Paul’s actions served to “strengthen [Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s hand.”

“What Schumer didn’t say,” Ritter noted, “was that an inspector general, mandated to oversee how U.S. taxpayer money authorized under the bill in question (the Additional Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2022, which became Public Law 117-128 on May 21), would have exposed the role that U.S. funds played to exact political revenge on the man who tried to inject a modicum of accountability into how monies appropriated by Congress are spent, namely Rand Paul.” Rand Paul, Ritter reports, was labeled an “information terrorist” by acting director of the CCD Andriy Shapovalov, a Ukrainian civil servant whose salary was paid for by U.S. taxpayer monies, on July 14. The occasion of his July 14 remarks was a conference paid for by the U.S. Civil Research and Development Fund (CRDF Global Ukraine), “an ostensible nonprofit organization authorized by U.S. Congress to promote ‘international scientific and technical collaboration,’” Ritter wrote. “It is supported by the U.S. State Department, some of whose officials sat in attendance.”

“But there is more,” Ritter continued. That “more” is the successful petitioning campaign of Diane Sare–who Ritter correctly identifies as a “LaRouche candidate”–to get on the ballot in New York to challenge Schumer’s re-election. “Diane Sare was singled out by the Schumer-funded, State Department-supported Center for Countering Disinformation as an ‘information terrorist’ who should be prosecuted as a ‘war criminal’ because of her public stance challenging the narrative about the Ukraine conflict,” Ritter noted. “That’s right — Chuck Schumer helped create the organizational structures which have attacked the reputation of a challenger for his Senate seat, threatening her with political violence and more for the `crime’ of challenging Schumer on the issue of Ukraine.”

“What Chuck Schumer has done in using U.S. taxpayer money to attack his political opponents is un-American. One can only hope that the New York voters see it the same way come November,” Ritter concluded. “It also appears to be illegal. As such, I hope that both Rand Paul and Diane Sare pursue whatever legal recourse is available to them to expose and shut down a Schumer-supported law that allows U.S. taxpayer money to underwrite a campaign targeting U.S. citizens, including serving senators and political challengers, with intimidation and more for the ‘crime’ of exercising their First Amendment right of free speech.”

Ukraine Labels Schiller Institute Leaders and Others as ‘War Criminals’

July 31—Although the Nazi-like blacklist published by Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) on July 14, fingering 78 prominent international individuals as purveyors of alleged “Russian propaganda,” has received wide coverage in western news outlets, including leading corporate media, all the coverage, with the single exception of that of Executive Intelligence Review.

The reportage has left out the most important truths behind this despicable attack by the U.S., UK and NATO funded operation in Ukraine: first, that the primary target is the Schiller Institute, given that the first thirty names on the list were speakers at Schiller Institute conferences in 2022, with Helga Zepp-LaRouche, the founder of the Schiller Institute, appearing prominently on the list; and, secondly, that on the same day the list was released, the acting head of the CCD, Andriy Shapovalov, in an address to a round table on countering disinformation, said that those on the list were “information terrorists,” and that “Information terrorists should know that they will have to answer to the law as war criminals.” That roundtable was organized in part by the U.S. Civilian Research and Development Foundation with the support of the U.S. State Department.

The Danger to Those Targeted

This is not only a threat to the safety and even the lives of those placed on the list, it also opens the door for the British and U.S. governments and their human rights mafia to bring the International Criminal Court and other imperial legal institutions to bear.

Scott Ritter, the outspoken former Marine Corps intelligence officer and UN weapons inspector, who also appeared on the CCD list, wrote an open letter to his Congressional representatives (U.S. Senators Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.), and Rep. Paul Tonko (N.Y.)), demanding they “take the appropriate action necessary to ensure that funds appropriated by the United States Congress are not used to suppress the free speech rights afforded to citizens of the United States, including myself, by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.” Ritter notes that all three of them supported H.R. 7691, “The Additional Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2022,” which provides funding for the Ukrainian government and its Center for Countering Disinformation that has targeted him.

Ritter writes: “As a constituent whose name has appeared on a so-called ‘blacklist’ published by the Ukrainian Center for Countering Disinformation, my personal and professional life has been, and continues to be, detrimentally impacted by the chilling effect of being labeled a ‘Russian propagandist’ for simply exercising the right to free speech guaranteed by the United States Constitution. Moreover, Ukraine has a history of converting ‘blacklists’ of this nature into ‘kill lists,’ where those who speak out against the policies of the Ukrainian government are being murdered or threatened with violence. I am certain you agree with me that Congress cannot be in a position where, through its actions, foreign governments are provided the means to intimidate citizens of the United States from exercising their Constitutionally protected rights regarding free speech.”

Schumer’s Role in Targeting his Opponent Through Ukrainian Nazi Lies

Even more threatening to U.S. law and the rights of its citizens is the fact that Diane Sare, officially on the ballot as a LaRouche candidate for the U.S. Senate seat in New York State, now held by Chuck Schumer, is also targeted on the Ukraine hit list. Thus, Schumer is openly supporting the funding of a foreign organization which is dangerously targeting his opponent in an extremely important political election in the United States—an interference in the American electoral process that puts to shame Schumer’s discredited claim of Russian interference in U.S. elections.

In a personal response issued by Sare on July 31, she states: “I would like to underscore what Scott Ritter has said, and ask the additional question of Senate Majority Leader Schumer, ‘Is it your intent to silence my voice in an indirect, but menacing fashion, by voting to fund Ukrainian civil servants who have stated that I should be arrested for war crimes?’ ”

According to the CCD, the July 14 conference was “supported”—that is, funded—by the State Department, while the Ukrainian office of the U.S.-headquartered Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF Global) was responsible for organizing the event, along with several Ukrainian outfits. Funders of CRDF Global, a public-private organization “founded in 1995 in response to the collapse of the Soviet Union,” include the State Department, State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Defense Department and its Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), and the UK government and its Counter Proliferation and Arms Control Centre. CRDF Global, led and staffed primarily by people with long careers in the U.S. MICIMATT (Military-Industrial-Congressional-Intelligence-Media-Academia-Think-Tank complex), has “Countering Disinformation and Cyber Security” as one of its “strategic areas,” along with nuclear proliferation, bioweapons lab operations, and a few other areas. CRDF Global’s Eastern Europe and Eurasia Hub has operated out of Kiev since 1997.

In April 2022, U.S. Department of State Senior Assistance Coordinator for Ukrainian Affairs, David Schlaefer, played a leading role in a meeting of the “national cybersecurity cluster” held by the National Cybersecurity Coordinating Center of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, with support from CRDF Global and the U.S. State Department Office of the Coordinator for Assistance to Europe and Eurasia, according to CRDF Global. Thus, the State Department “knew or should have known” of the threats issued at the event they sponsored. The question arises: Were any State Department officials involved in drawing up the hit list and encouraging its publication? It is clear that, should anything happen to any of the 78 people included on the Ukrainian hit list, the U.S. State Department could be held co-responsible for that harm.

Kremlin Spokesman: Russia Stands in “Absolute Solidarity” With China

Aug. 3 (EIRNS) – Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated yesterday that Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan was “purely provocative. We see this, it is being recorded by all countries of the world. We stand in absolute solidarity with China here. Its sensitivity to this issue is understandable. It is justified. And instead of respecting this the US is choosing the path of confrontation. It doesn’t bode well,” the Kremlin spokesman said, adding that Washington’s decision is “only regrettable.”

Asked whether the Pelosi visit could lead to “global war,” Peskov said her visit was a “clear provocation,” but “I would suggest not to throw around words as serious [as ‘global war’]. That said, “underestimating the level of tension sparked by this visit” is not advisable either, he added.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, asked by journalists on Wednesday what was behind the Pelosi trip, stated: “It was the drive to prove to everyone their impunity and to act accordingly. ‘I do whatever I want’, something like that. I can hardly imagine any other reason to create a flashpoint out of thin air, despite knowing what it would mean for China.”

Former New Zealand Minister Denounces Ukraine Hit List, Calls for Government Investigation

Aug. 1, 2022 (EIRNS)—A former New Zealand Minister, Matthew Robson, who was placed on the Ukraine/NATO hit list has responded with a powerful blast at the attack and a call for the New Zealand government to investigate. Robson is the former New Zealand Minister of Disarmament and Arms Control and Associate Minister of Foreign Affairs.

His full statement reads:

I have been placed on a blacklist by the Ukrainian government, in the company of many prominent scholars and well-known public figures.

I am quite flattered to be in the company of such an eminent list of people with widely varying opinions on the nature of the war in the Ukraine.

But all of them are engaged in the time-honored tradition of scholars and democratic societies of honest and open debate rather than the “group think” demanded by NATO governments.

The New Zealand Bill of Rights Act, Section 14, provides the following guarantee:

Freedom of expression: Everyone has the right to freedom of expression, including the freedom to seek, receive, and impart information and opinions of any kind in any form.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights to which New Zealand and, I presume, the Ukraine are signatories guarantees the same. I am writing to the Prime Minister of New Zealand to ask her to take up with the government of the Ukraine this breach of my right, under both New Zealand and international law, to freely express my opinions, and my being on a list that endangers my safety.
