The Oasis Plan – The LaRouche Solution for Southwest Asia

We must structure, at the same time, a general policy plan of development which is the foundation for such peace. For years, our proposals for economic development have been repeatedly brushed aside, with the advice that a political settlement must come first, and then an economic cooperation for general development of the region might become possible.

We have repeatedly said, . . . that that line of argument is wrong, and even dangerously absurd. The simple reason is, that without a policy of economic development, the Arabs and Israelis have no common basis for political agreement: no common interest.

Lyndon H. LaRouche, Jr.  – August 21, 1990

Introduction to LaRouche’s Oasis Plan

In 1975, LaRouche first designed and discussed his Oasis Plan for economic development of the entire Middle East region, known as the crossroads of civilization, with both Arabs and Israelis.  General agreement occurred between the parties; the only obstacle was that stated above: some insisted a political agreement had to precede any economic agreement. So now, fifty years of bloodshed and geopolitically motivated wars, later, proves the truth of LaRouche’s point: it is once you have economic cooperation that, then and only then, both sides will find a common interest to work together for peace and shared prosperity.

His Oasis Plan is an infrastructural blueprint to address the most critical need in the region: accessible, fresh water, and transport networks creating abundant fresh water for drinking, farming, and commerce, as well as region-wide connectivity.  Such a project allows people of the region to engage together to make their economies and deserts bloom while eliminating any reason to fight over resources. Read the plan details at the “Oasis Plans” below.

This massive regional plan will require funding. Find the proposed ways to do this by going to “Videos and Other Resources” below to watch our 14-minute video.

It is now 2025, no political agreement has been made. Millions of lives, young and old, have been brutally lost to needless wars. Yet, a critical moment of opportunity for the LaRouche Oasis Plan has emerged. We must seize it.  Mrs. Helga Zepp-LaRouche has recently called for “immediate recognition of a Palestinian state,” but also noted that “that state cannot function if there is not an immediate, not just reconstruction of Gaza, which is completely flattened to the ground” but, she said, will “require a real peace order in the entire region, which we have provided with the Oasis Plan.”

On March 4, in the wake of the Trump administration brokered ceasefire, a summit among Arab countries was held in Cairo at which they adopted a Gaza reconstruction plan. Zepp-LaRouche deemed it a useful “baby step in the right direction of the Oasis Plan.” Now is the time to “put this perspective of development massively on the table” since what is required is a “new global strategic security and development architecture which involves every country on the planet” she declared.

To overcome the cycle of violence for good and to give hope to a new generation of youth in Palestine, Israel, and the Southwest Asia region as a whole, requires a mission of durable development which the Oasis Plan provides. The blood stains upon the collective soul of humanity must be and can be cleansed with hope for a beautiful future if we finally build it.
